رحلة العمر
The journey of a lifetime. An oud taksim in maqam Rast opens the road, then a deep, breathy flute and a crying violin carry the memories: a childhood in the lanes of Tunis, the sea, the ferry leaving the harbor, and the long years of work far from home. Wordless voices rise and fall like the waves. In the end the music slows, and a man on a faraway balcony looks at an old family photograph, grateful for every step of the way.

Every story about music and migration is told the same way: the young leave the village, find the city, invent something new, and never look back. The village stays behind as scenery — history, customs, teachings, pride — beautiful, faceless, and abandoned. When I made the film for "Darb El Ghubar" , I wanted to walk that story in the other direction.
